February 14 Downtown Historic Norcross is the heart of romance on Valentine’s Day! Between 6p.m. and 9p.m. snuggle together in a horse drawn carriage. Renew your wedding vows in a casual ceremony then stroll to a nearby restaurant for an intimate dinner and champagne. Carriage rides pick up in front of Taste of Britain and you can renew your vows in front of 45 South Café – both activities are free! Dinner reservations are highly recommended at any of our delish restaurants, so make 'em now and surprise your loved one with an extra special date night!
February 10 Lionheart Theatre (10 College St.) presents the world premiere of James Beck's wonderful comedy BLEACH. This is a story of a mis-guided exterminator's quest to keep his life clean - yes, it's a bit off the wall but isn't that what makes great plays fun? February 10 Kudzu Art Zone Song in My Heart Exhibit Opening This exhibit is an exploration of art that emanates from the heart-mind of the artist -a combination of ideas and emotions as intertwining relationships. Artworks in many styles and mediums will be on display now through the end of April 2012. Come see what our member artists have thought up for this one! Plus, the Wall of Small, little works of art to delight and tempt us.... any time of the year! February 16 - STATE OF THE CITY This promises to be a dynamic and creative look back at 2011 and how our community accomplishments set the stage for another great year ahead! A far cry from many (yawn) government reviews, this one is guaranteed to entertain as well as inform. This year's event is hosted by one of our newest businesses, Hyundai Construction Equipment USA which opened its international headquarters here last fall. Come see their really impressive facility and let Mayor Bucky Johnson fill you in on all the latest reasons Norcross is the best palceinteh whole world in which to live work and create! February 17 & 18 Arbor Days in Norcross! Two chances to help us plant community trees. February 17th's celebration is at 11am at the Norcross Welcome Center (189 Lawrenceville St.) and includes awards for an student art contest held at Norcross Elementary. Saturday (Feb. 18) the fun begins at 11:30am outside of the Norcross Co-op Ministry on Mitchell Road. There's also a free Health Awareness Day going on - this is a great chance to get free health screenings, talk to health specialists and more!
February 22 Norcross Welcome Center Lecture Series presents Southern Sisters: Building Bridges of Understanding During the Civil Rights Movement. Local Norcross historian and doctoral candidate, Edie Riehm, has been researching and publishing about Dorothy Tilly and her group of southern churchwomen. Come learn how these middle aged, white-gloved southern ladies forged positive change in southern society during the tumultuous years of the civil rights movement. Light refreshments will be served.
